Abstract

Soil is a storehouse of fertility is an idea as old as agriculture itself. More recently this idea has been pictured with the soil behaving as a bank- with "deposits" made in the form of crop residues, manures and fertilizers and "withdrawals" made in the form of harvested crops. This is the concept with which this article deals.
